Microbial Aeroglyphs: SpaceshipHome

Invisible beings pervade the air we breathe. Populations of endospores, colonies of airborne selves float across landscapes, changing with each distinction of place. In this project, I investigate the idea of landscapes as living beings through the lens of the invisible organisms that float within the air of my home forest on eastern long island. Through the fusion of scientific practice, and spiritual connection to place, mythology is created through ritual. Organisms are gathered in sterilized LB agar through open pouring of petri dishes in a forest environment. These organisms create a snapshot of the airborne microbial populations at the particular moment of the ceremony.

This video documents the pouring process and the beginning of the collection of aerial organisms.
